INTRODUCTION

This is the story of how I came to be.

For as long as I can remember, my parents' story has lived somewhere between tragedy and hope. It is a story of impossible choices, quiet sacrifices, and a love that was born when life had given them every reason to stop believing in one.

There were moments when I wondered what might have happened if they had chosen differently—if my mother had stayed, if my father had walked away, if either of them had taken an easier path.

But every road they didn't take led to the same realization.

Had they made different choices, I would never have existed.

So before I tell you my story, I wanted you to know theirs.

Because long before I had a name, my life had already begun with the choices they made.

MY CHILDHOOD

Although only in fragments, I still remember my life before my family moved back to Santa Elena.

From the day I was born until I finished kindergarten, Pateros was the only home I knew. My memories of those years come in scattered pieces—a familiar street, the sound of neighbors chatting outside, afternoons spent playing, and moments that have somehow stayed with me despite the passing of time.

They may be nothing more than snippets now, but together they form the earliest chapters of my life.

To this day, Pateros holds a special place in my heart. It was where my story truly began.

ELEMENTARY DAYS

Here's what's left of the moments I remember from that period of my life. Nothing revolutionary. Just ordinary memories that refused to fade because they shaped me just as much as the bigger ones.

Childhood has a way of making the smallest things feel larger than life. A rumor could become an undeniable truth. A simple crush could feel like the greatest love story ever lived. Back then, everything seemed to carry a sense of wonder, even when none of it made much sense.

My first love—or at least what I believed was love at the time—and my first heartbreak continue to live in my head, rent-free. Those feelings felt real to me as a child, and I suppose that's what makes them worth remembering.

There were plenty of happy memories during those years, along with a few painful ones. There were friendships that survived long after graduation, classmates who quietly drifted out of my life, competitions that took me beyond my hometown, and lessons I didn't realize I was learning until much later. None of them changed the world, but they shaped the person I would eventually become.

So I figured I'd finally share those stories with you.

HIGH SCHOOL LIFE

Some say high school is the most important chapter of a person’s school years, and I couldn’t agree more. For me, it was a time when friendships deepened, new experiences unfolded, and so many of the memories I still carry today began to take shape.

I met new people who taught me different lessons about life, and some of them became part of experiences I would remember for years to come. They were there for some of my firsts—first adventures, first moments of independence, first heartbreaks, and even some of the little moments I never thought would become lasting memories.

There were school trips where we went without our parents tagging along, arguments over a boy, and even petty fights over who ranked higher in class. There was my first school dance, my first taste of alcohol, and the first time I brought a boy home to meet my parents.

So much happened in those four years of high school. Some memories still make me laugh, while others remind me of how much I had yet to learn.
